4/28/2012 Construction Eases Off in 3-Year TMC Project
Construction work that has congested Tucson Medical Center for the better part of three years got a little lighter this week. The hospital opened a new and much-needed 600-space parking garage on the west campus Thursday, and conducted tours of its partially completed 78-foot tower. Next up: finishing the four-story tower, which will be for surgery and orthopaedic patients. The TMC Orthopaedic and Surgical Tower is expected to open in April 2013.…more

10/1/2011 TMC Turnaround from Turmoil to Profit and Innovation
In 2007, Tucson Medical Center was in turmoil. TMC was under investigation for nearly 40 complaints where 22 violations were found - nearly seven times the amount of complaints filed against any other Tucson-area hospital at the time. It faced an $18 million loss and much of the organization's leadership had left, including the CEO and CFO. The board had a plan to put the troubled hospital on the market.…more

The projects will total around $100 million and include a four-story tower and a 632-space parking garage as well as new roads and entrances. A growing number of joint replacement surgeons are beginning to perform hip replacement surgery using an anterior approach instead of the traditional posterior approach because of the benefits it has for the patient as well as the provider. It can be safely performed on many patients, as long as they have a low risk of fracture and normal anatomy. The Tucson Orthopaedic Institute Research Center was first established in 1997. It's mission was re-defined in 2002 to concentrate on implementing clinical research studies by major pharmaceutical and device companies, as well as investigator initiated projects for interesting clinical problems. Since then, the TOI Research department has completed over 100 clinical trials and has helped bring to market many new and promising drugs, devices, and procedures in the musculoskeletal field (orthopaedics). Our Research team presented its results at over 40 local, national, and international meetings in the form of scientific abstracts, posters, and podium presentations.…more
