Orthopaedic Institute wins 2006 Copper Cactus Award for Community Service |
||||
Tucson Orthopaedic Institute was recognized for its commitment to community education and outreach efforts promoting lifestyles that create strong, healthy bones, joints and muscles. In 2005 the Institute created an annual signature event, the Playground Build Project to bring local focus to the importance of playground injury prevention. The Institute raised over $60,000 for the project with the help of TMC Foundation and other community partners. Employees and physicians joined with school and community volunteers to build a playground in a single day, much like an |
old-fashioned barn raising. Over 300 volunteers came together in March, 2005 for the C.E. Rose Elementary School project. Reynolds Elementary School was the 2006 recipient, with another 300+ volunteers. The physicians are actively involved with the Arthritis Foundation of the Greater Southwest, in both fundraising efforts and in providing community education to the one in three people in Tucson who are impacted by arthritis. Tucson Orthopaedic is a sponsor for the El Tour de Tucson, and has its own cycling team that participates. TOI is dedicated to being an active member of the Tucson community, and views its commitment to volunteerism and community involvement as an essential part of its role as medical practice. In addition, the physicians donate money personally, and volunteer countless hours individually to both community organizations and to individual people in need of care. Links |
